The Dark Deepness

Nyx Slim Lip Pencil in Cocoa

There's not a lot to say about this look, other than that I was listening to Ariel Pink the whole time I was doing it.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

I FINALLY got some more Makeup Geek eyeshadows! I did a look inspired by Samantha's orange halo eye, ok I basically DID the orange halo eye. Anyway, the shadows are amazing quality and I'll leave it at that.

UPDATE & FOTD!

I totally forgot bottom mascara until after photos. DON'T TELL ANYONE.

Yo kids.

I've been actually getting excited about makeup again lately after a relatively dry spell. I'm getting excited about some things to try like more artistic stuff, and some other things that have been long time requests like how on earth I deal with freckles/foundation and all that. But I wanted to share a couple things that are putting that on hold, and some exciting news!

Halo Eye Tutorial (and a question for everyone!)

OP delivers!

The halo eye tutorial is live on my youtube channel, here.

To everyone who responded on instagram when I asked which version you'd like to see in the tutorial, THANK YOU! To those who wanted me to do the gold/brown version, don't worry. It's the exact same concept as the burgundy/pink, with different colors. I even showed you exactly which colors I used for the other version in the video!

Also, I have a question for you guys! In my videos (or any youtube makeup videos), do you prefer voiceovers or me running my mouth?

I've noticed my voiceover videos are shorter (which I personally like), but they're less natural. This halo eye tutorial is about 12 minutes of tutorial, which is about double what my voiceover'd tutorials are. I'm curious to see what you guys prefer!

THANKS FOR LIKING THE HALO EYE AS MUCH AS ME GUYS. I treated myself to the Electric Palette for my birthday, so it's about to get bright up in this bitch. I'm excited for more halo fun.

I hope you guys like the more rambly video and let me know what you think!

I can see your halo!

I forgot how much I loved a good halo eye, so when I did the burgundy version, I freaked out and did the gold version the next day.

Day to Night Tutorial featuring UD Shame (Collab with Rebecca Shores)

I had the honor of doing a collaboration with Rebecca Shores! We both created looks around Urban Decay Revolution lipstick in Shame.

SHAME.

The name of this Urban Decay Revolution lipstick is Shame. That is so far from what I feel when I wear it.

Cut Crease - Instagram Favorite!

I'll be honest: this look was completely unplanned, and I didn't think it would be very well received. However, it is the most liked look I've ever posted on instagram!

Gold Glitter Bomb

I saw a Wet'n'Wild glitter square at the store a few days ago, and bought it for 93 cents on a whim. I knew I had some loose glitter lying around, and I thought, "What the hell. Let's do something ridiculous."

And oh my god was it ridiculous.

ArcheAge Character Creation: Why I'm So Impressed

Listen, that title had ever single word capitalized, so you KNOW I'm srs.

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you've probably seen a couple of my Archeage inspired recreations. This is the first game in a while that has me legitimately excited about character creations, and here is why:

 MAKEUP.

Not body paint, not war paint, not dirt/bruise options, not just variety in facial/hair options, but literal MAKEUP options.

Now, don't get me wrong. Having cool dirt/warpaint/feature options is awesome, and I think tons of people love that, including myself. But I've never seen a game with actual eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, and lip options that are THIS sophisticated. Most games I've played have 4-6 "makeup" options that minimally change the character's "eyeshadow" color.

So first, let me tell you a little bit about ArcheAge. (This is not a sponsored post. I am writing this because I'm pumped, no other reason!)

Orange and Mint Green FOTD

I feel like lately I've had kind of a creative quarter-life crisis, where I've been burned out and feeling pressure from myself to do ALL THE THINGS possible to make my makeup the best it's ever been. Other parts of my life have had a similar parallel, where the false feeling of impossibility and overwhelm have been rendering me paralyzed, moody, and shut-down creatively.

This morning when I woke up, I felt a shift. I felt like suddenly the power was back in my hands; I re-realized that life is just an illusion, a play place where we get to learn, have fun, work hard, love, and grow. I felt lighter in my body and heart, and the things that were a huge deal yesterday seemed like they held no consequence for today.

TL;DR: I've been feeling shitty but now I feel great and it somehow led me to orange and green makeup.

Smoky Eye: Posh as Fuck

It's been quite a while since I've done a classic smoky eye. I forgot how amazing I feel in it.

Imperfect, dewy, messy, PINK. Not my usual.

For whatever reason, I woke up yesterday thinking I really need to wear some HOT PINK lip gloss and shiny skin. It's far away from my normal love of matte. Sometimes I just want to be obnoxious.

Burgundy Eye (with some new circle lenses!)

Barbie Romana Grey circle lenses

After trying the Emelia Clarke Flare magazine look, I realize how much I LOVE burgundy eyeshadow, so I created a look around it! And I threw on some of my new circle lenses because I couldn't resist.

Emelia Clarke Flare Magazine Recreation FAIL

So, I tried to recreate a look that Emelia Clarke sported for Flare magazine, but with a darker twist.

I just ended up with concealer all over myself.

Highlighting with Nyx Milk

I often highlight with Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, and a lot of people ask me how I do it. It's really simple, so here it is! It's an amazing matte highlight for pale skin.

I fell in love.

Mad Makeup with Makeup Geek shadow/liner

Do you ever have days where you get really pissed over small things? I sure as fuck do.

That happened to me a few days ago, and instead of peeling out to go buy cigarettes or a bottle of wine, I decided to lock myself in my room, turn up my Tame Impala spotify station, and paint my face.

Review: Red Cherry Lashes #83

I call it a review, but it's more like a collection of photos that shows why I can't stop saying "fuck yeah" when I wear these.

Diablo III Inspired Makeup

Before anyone asks, it's not cosplay (I wish)!

I've been playing some Diablo III again lately, after not playing for a couple years. What struck me immediately when I logged on again was the dark art style. It's absolutely gorgeous; I had forgotten how much I love it.

The character that you are as a player of the game is basically a person who feels drawn to a place where a star fell from the heavens and the dead are rising around it.

Benefit High Beam Review

Benefit High Beam review!

At girls night last week, my good friend Bailee brought up the need for her makeup looks to be dewy. We both took a second to fangirl over Carmindy (a makeup artist from WNTW), who always looks so glowy and dewy. It's some touched-by-an-angel shit.

What's this about?

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Hey guys!

This blog is a place for me to post stuff I do with makeup, and maybe some occasional relevant life thoughts, such as this:

I see beauty as something very subjective, even though we as a society have come to accept some trends as standards for beauty. Unfortunately, it seems to have gotten to the point that these standards tell us what is acceptable and what is not. In reality, what is acceptable aesthetically to any given person is 100% up to that person alone.

When I wear makeup, I'm not doing it because I feel pressure from society. I don't feel like I have to hide under makeup, or wear it to reach a standard that will make me "pretty" or "good" enough for the world. I wear makeup because it's a form of creative expression, and it inspires me. Enhancing or even downright changing the features of my face into what I visualize is rewarding. It forces me to look at myself in a different way, appreciate my natural features and work with them to create something. That has given me so much appreciation for my canvas, and the canvases of others who do the same with makeup.

So for the most part, you'll see makeup looks, tutorials, and reviews on this blog. But sometimes some of my thoughts on the concept of beauty itself will creep in! I feel some kind of social responsibility to be open with how I feel about makeup.

And why is it called "coffee_pls"? That's my reddit username, instagram username, and twitter username (with an extra underscore). I already post makeup stuff there, and I wanted something easily rememberable for all the cool cats who know me on those platforms already. Also, I kind of get really irritated with beauty blog names that include the words "pretty" or "lovely" and stuff like that. Just. *shudder* Not for me.

So there you have it. See you next time!
